Mains d'argile
Kimuli plastering a clay wall

Meet Kimuli

Ten years in general construction, then the choice of earth.

I worked for ten years in general construction. There I learned the trade of the building site, its demands and the value of work done properly.

I learned clay plastering from professionals who have been established for a long time. Today it is my trade: I plaster walls and ceilings by hand, in renovations as well as in new builds.

I live in Rochefort and I like to work close to home: a site followed closely is a site done with care.

Why clay

Clay plaster is a natural finish for interior walls and ceilings, made from clay, sand and plant fibres.

The air in your home

  • It absorbs excess moisture and releases it again when the air is dry, so the indoor atmosphere stays steadier and more comfortable.
  • No cement, no plastics, no added solvents or biocides.
  • It absorbs part of the cooking and everyday smells.
  • A simple mineral finish, appreciated by occupants who care about indoor air quality.

The material

  • Natural clays, all from Belgium, taken from long-established quarries that work cleanly.
  • Dried, not fired: very little energy to produce.
  • Repairable and reusable: an unstabilised clay can be re-wetted and reworked, or returned to the earth.
  • It pairs with natural insulation (hemp, wood fibre, reed, straw) for walls that breathe.

Comfort

  • It adds to the wall's thermal inertia and softens swings in the room's conditions.
  • A soft, matt surface that slightly reduces echo in a room.
  • A mineral, non-combustible material.
  • A scuff or a crack: dampen it, trowel it back, and the wall looks like new.

Where clay does not belong, lime.

Clay is made for dry interiors. For wet rooms and exterior walls, I offer lime plasters.

My services

Three skills, one standard: natural materials, applied by hand.

My core trade

Clay plastering

Body coat then finishing coat, on dry interior surfaces: walls, ceilings, window reveals, staircases, stoves and masses. Smooth or grainy finishes, in a palette of earth tones.

Lime plastering

Where clay is not suitable, lime takes over: a mineral, durable material suited to damp conditions.

Internal insulation

Bio-based or natural insulation: hemp blocks, wood fibre, reed, straw bales. The clay plaster then covers the insulation.

Each site is studied on the spot: organic-shaped walls, special openings, stoves. Everything is priced by quotation.

The three layers
Clay base layer on a wall

1 · Base layer

I prepare the wall and apply the first material: old brick, hemp block, timber frame or reed.

First layer of clay

2 · First layer

It levels and fills. It dries naturally, without cement.

Finishing layer of clay

3 · Finishing layer

It gives the wall its colour, texture and softness.
